HIKING LIMPOVISI: THE HISTORIC VILLAGE
Perhaps the most beautiful trail in mountainous Arcadia that combines hiking and history!
We will pass through the dense fir forests of Mainalo, the historic gorge of the Kolokotronis family, and end up in the village of Limpovisi, where the spark of the Greek Revolution was ignited.
Our journey will begin in the traditional village of Piana, a historic village in Arcadia at an altitude of 1,080 meters. Then, we will pass by Pan’s Cave, where, according to local legend, the goat-footed god with his flute filled the ravines and mountains of Mainalo with music.
The route will continue through Lykorema and Arkoudorema, an abandoned prehistoric village of Arcadia. We will pass by Panagia Arkoudorematos, a unique 14th-century chapel, and finish in Limpovisi, the village of Kolokotronis.
There, we will visit the house of the "Old Man of Morea", which now operates as a museum. After the hike, we will enjoy a light meal at the village’s traditional café, surrounded by fir trees in a beautiful natural setting!
